Founder & Executive Director, Stemtree of Coral Gables
Ty Gabriel is the Founder and Executive Director of Stemtree of Coral Gables, a K–12 STEM education center serving students, families, schools, and nonprofit organizations throughout Miami-Dade County. Since launching the Coral Gables location, Ty has focused on creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences that help students build confidence in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, coding, and robotics.

Building Stronger STEM Learners

Under Ty’s leadership, Stemtree of Coral Gables offers instruction in science, math, coding, electronics, robotics, and 3D printing, with programs available through after-school classes, weekend programs, homeschool enrichment, camps, and academic support. Students can explore coding languages including Scratch, Python, Java, and C++ while progressing through an extensive robotics curriculum.

Ty has also expanded Stemtree beyond its Coral Gables learning center by developing partnerships with schools and community organizations throughout Miami-Dade. These programs bring hands-on STEM instruction directly to students and allow schools to supplement their existing curriculum with specialized educators, technology, equipment, and measurable learning outcomes.

An Education-First Approach

Ty believes STEM education should do more than introduce students to technology. It should encourage curiosity, strengthen problem-solving skills, and give children the confidence to experiment, create, and tackle increasingly complex challenges.

Stemtree’s instructional model includes evaluating students' starting skill levels, teaching concepts toward mastery, and reassessing progress. Ty has built a team of degreed instructors with backgrounds in computer science, biology, engineering, and other STEM disciplines to provide students with meaningful, individualized instruction.

His work has also produced measurable results through community and school partnerships. At Girl Power Rocks at Frank C. Martin K-8, participating students achieved a 15.2% average exam-score improvement, while 13 of 17 students improved by more than 50% between their lowest and highest quiz scores.

Leadership Rooted in Service and Innovation

Before focusing on STEM education and entrepreneurship, Ty completed a 20-year career as a U.S. Naval officer, where his work included intelligence, geopolitical analysis, cybersecurity, and leadership in complex environments.

His professional and academic background also spans technology, biotechnology, business, and entrepreneurship. Ty earned a Master of Science in Biotechnology Enterprise & Entrepreneurship from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA with a focus on Finance, Private Equity, and Venture Capital from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

That combination of education, technology, leadership, and real-world problem solving shapes his approach at Stemtree: give students the tools to understand how things work, the freedom to ask questions, and the confidence to build solutions of their own.
